What Speed Can You Expect?
The speed at which you connect will depend to a great extent on the phone wiring from the telephone company switchbox that you see along the road (not your phone "pedestal"!) all the way to your computer, including the wiring in your house. Because of that fact, we cannot guarantee any improvement in connection speed if you upgrade to a 56k modem. If the telephone company has multiplexed your service with other houses in your neighborhood (NOT a party line) you probably won't be able to get a fast connection. 56k modems using X2 technology will not connect at speeds above 33.6k at this time.
Our Experience
56k modems will not work unless your modem is directly connected
to the CenturyTel switching office in Winthrop or Twisp.
In other words, you must live within about 3 miles of Winthrop or Twisp for a 56k
modem to have a chance of working. Let us know if your experience is different!
